One of the unique features of ION Wood’s 'nano-ceramic' coating is that it is also made with ZnO (Zinc Oxide) that is applied in such a way that it is 99% effective at killing E. Coli and Staphylococcus Aureus (standard finishes offer no protection). When bacteria comes in contact with ION Woods’ coating, the Zinc ion (positive charge) destroys the bacterial cell membrane (negative charge), effectively killing the bacteria to create anti-microbial surface. In addition to the traditional antibacterial effect of ZnO, the surface, and interface effects of nanoscale particles, result in a much higher number of atoms on the surface than that on traditional particles, which increases the contact area between nanoZnO and bacteria, providing a much better antibacterial effect than standard ZnO treatments.

ION Wood products contains Far Infrared particles which emit a resonant frequency found elsewhere only in the human body (lymphatic system) and from the sun (wavelength ranges from 15µm/micrometers to 1 mm). When in contact with these particles found within ION wood, water molecules in the body pass this specific wavelength vibration to adjacent cells (think a violin string vibrating throughout the body of the instrument).
